Cliffhangers is an American drama series that debuted on February 27, 1979 on NBC. Each hour-long episode was divided into three 20-minute segments : Stop Susan Williams, The Secret Empire, and The Curse of Dracula. To add to the "in-progress" feeling of the proceedings, all three series were started with different chapter numbers (although this was the first broadcast for all of them): "Stop Susan Williams" began at Chapter II, "The Secret Empire" started with Chapter III, and "The Curse of Dracula" with Chapter VI.

Sapphire & Steel is a British television science-fiction fantasy series starring David McCallum as Steel and Joanna Lumley as Sapphire. Produced by ATV, it ran from 1979 to 1982 on the ITV network. The series was created by Peter J. Hammond who conceived the programme under the working title The Time Menders, after a stay in an allegedly haunted castle. Hammond also wrote all the stories except for the fifth, which was co-written by Don Houghton and Anthony Read. None of the stories had onscreen titles, or any official titles assigned by the writers. The Region 1 Complete Series DVD release gives the titles "Escape Through a Crack in Time", "The Railway Station", "The Creature's Revenge", "The Man Without a Face", "Dr. McDee Must Die" and "The Trap", respectively. These titles have often been cited as having been created by science fiction magazine Time Screen.

Rescue Me is a British romantic comedy television series produced by Tiger Aspect Productions and broadcast on BBC One from 3 March to 7 April 2002. It was created, and principally written, by David Nicholls, and stars Sally Phillips as Katie Nash, a woman recovering from a divorce while at the same time writing relationship features for women's magazine Eden. Filming took place from November to December 2001. Six episodes aired, averaging 3.4 million viewers and a 15% audience share in its Sunday night timeslot. The low ratings meant it was not recommissioned for a second series, leaving an unresolved cliffhanger. Nicholls had written four episodes of the unmade second series before discovering the series had been cancelled.
