The focus is on the psychologist Stefan Schwab, who after overwork, burnout and divorce is actually just looking for the proverbial “Boarische Rua” ("Bavarian peace") in the tranquil foothills of the Alps. However, this wish is not fulfilled; instead, he is reluctantly drawn into the bloody awakening of ancient legends: children disappear, “sinners” are murdered and archaic legends suddenly take on a deadly relevance.

The teenager Lill runs like a ghostly thread through the four seemingly self-contained stories. But what do a crossbow, a manga comic and a video game have to do with it?

A group of young supermarket employees face the everyday challenges of the branch. Under the direction of branch manager Thorsten, the employees try to cope with all catastrophes and dramas, such as stealing employees, a mouse plague or dissatisfied customers, from store opening to closing time. It is not uncommon for employees to reach their limits.

England, 19th century: Seth Pilaster runs one of the most influential banking houses in the kingdom. When Hugh Pilaster, the capable and talented youngest member of the family, realizes that he has no chance against his less talented cousin on the career ladder due to family circumstances, he tries to drown his frustration in the dive bars of London's working-class districts. There he falls in love with poor Maisie. However, as he sees no prospects for either his professional future or his love for Maisie, he first goes to America, only to return six years later as a successful banker. To make matters worse, Maisie is now married to Hugh's best friend and the balance of power has also changed fundamentally.
