The spouses of Vera and Viktor Novikova are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. At the celebration, they invited Vera's sister, Nina, and her fiancé, Igor, to their home. But the holiday failed. In the evening, Nina is found dead on the street. At the same time, Valentin, who was Nina's fiance four years ago, appears in the city. Then Vera found out that he was a drug dealer and testified against him. Now Valentin is full of desire to take revenge on Vera and Igor, who took his beloved away from him.
The story begins in the spring of 1989, in the provincial town of Kasimov. Nina Golubeva graduates from school with a medal and dreams of becoming a fashion designer. The first serious love turns into a difficult ordeal – the guy leaves the girl pregnant. At the beginning of the "dashing 90s" Nina moves to inhospitable Moscow and learns to rely only on herself. She will have both recognition and success ahead of her, but happiness and true love will have to go a difficult way.
Vera's life was like a fairy tale with a loving husband, smart and beautiful daughter, caring father, and her favorite hobby, baking desserts. When her husband cheats on her with her young neighbor, she decides to leave him and turn her baking hobby into a business.
