The day before Tomoki’s wedding day, he is falsely accused of sexual harassment. Due to the false accusation, he loses his job and his fiance leaves him. Tomoki decides to kill himself. While standing on the ledge of a rooftop building, he sees a woman running toward him and screaming. She is attacked by a man with a knife. Tomoki becomes involved and gets stabbed by the man, but it turns out the attack was a staged event and Tomoki was not really stabbed. Tomoki learns that the staged event is called "enijya," which takes place upon a client's request. This is the first time he hears of eniya. Tomoki decides to hire Aika to take revenge on people who falsely accused him of sexual harassment.

Aoi Midori is a pharmacist and in the 8-year span of her career, she has worked according to her strong belief that "One must know the patient well in order to prescribe the correct medication as medicine is the bond that connects the patient's today to his/her daily life henceforth". Due to that, Aoi usually takes a long time in her consultations with the patients, and this causes her to be complained by her colleagues for being too inefficient in her work. Aoi shrugs off the complaints as her goal is to help the patients regain the daily life that they once took for granted.

Reiko Kuki is single, works in the accounting dept. for toy manufacturer. She lives her life frugally and hardly buys stuff that is not a necessity. A year ago, she found small dishes at a secondhand store and liked them immediately. And Finally, she makes the decision to purchase it for $15. She enters the store, but sees a man and woman buying small dishes at random. The man is Keita Saruwatari. His father runs the toy company where Reiko works. Reiko happens to be the person to advise Keita about money...

Yoko Miyama works as a doctor at Touto Hospital. She specializes in brain aneurysms in the neurosurgery department. Yoko Miyama becomes involved with her colleagues, including Kengo Kuroiwa, Sachiko Kozukue, and Takuma Nishigoori. Meanwhile, she suffers from guilt for abandoning her family.

Okuhara Natsu was born in Tokyo in 1937. In 1945, she loses both parents to war and becomes an orphan, but her father’s comrade, Shibata Takeo, takes her in and moves to Tokachi in Hokkaido. In an unfamiliar land surrounded by unfamiliar people, Natsu feels lost at first, but surrounded by Tokachi’s vast nature and its strong, yet compassionate people, she grows up to be a strong girl. When Natsu enters elementary school, she meets Yamada Tenyo who draws lovely pictures of horses. Tenyo tells her that in America, animation in which pictures move is becoming popular, Natsu’s curiosity is piqued. Upon graduating high school, Natsu goes to Tokyo to look up her brother, and takes a jump into the world of animation.

Sakura grew up on a remote island. She has a dream, which is to build a bridge on her island. In the spring of 2009, Sakura joins a big construction company. She does not hesitate to tell her colleagues about her dream to build a bridge. Sakura's determination to accomplish her dream affects the colleagues at her company.

When Takuma Kakinouchi was 8-years-old, he spent time in the hospital. He made friends with Mayu Taneda who was the same age as him. One day, they got out of the hospital and visited a park. There, Takuma Kakinouchi and Mayu Taneda promised that they would marry each other. They had no doubt that they would have a future together. 7 years later, Takuma Kakinouchi entered a prestigious high school at the age of 15. During the high school welcoming ceremony, a female freshman representative goes up to the platform. Takuma Kakinouchi is shocked to see that the girl is Mayu Taneda. Just so she could be with Takuma Kakinouchi, Mayu Taneda studied extremely hard to enter the same prestigious high school. Takuma Kakinouchi has tried to avoid her, even though he loves her. Kenji Amo is a 2nd generation Japanese-American. He was born in America, but went to school in Japan. He returned to America to study at UCLA. Now, Kenji Amo works as a reporter for a newspaper in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles. Charlie Tamiya also studied at UCLA with Kenji Amo. Charlie Tamiya has feeling for Nagiko who works with Kenji Amo at the same newspaper company. Knowing that, Kenji Amo holds complicated feelings. At this time, Nagiko's friend Emi Hatanaka asks Kenji Amo to marry her. He accepts her proposal, but the Pacific War begins. Circumstances surrounding Kenji Amo changes.

Minato Shindo has savant syndrome. His memory is amazing, but he has difficulty communicating with other people. When Minato was little, he dreamed of becoming a doctor. He met Doctor Akira Shiga and he wanted to become a pediatric surgeon. Akira was surprised by the 7-year-old's memory of the human organs and he decided to support Minato in achieving his dream. Eventually, Minato graduated from medical school and passed the national exam for medical practitioners. Now, Akira works as a director at a large hospital. He suggests to Minato to work in the pediatric surgery department at the hospital where he works.
