After the end of World War II, when Singapore returns to British rule after four years of Japanese Occupation, the lives of several individuals are thrown into upheaval by the turbulence of the times.

Famous celebrity, Gu Xin, unknowingly caused the death of three individuals who became wandering souls. Her elder son Ah Bee is a chronic gambler who is unemployed for a long time while her younger son Ah Qiang is an introvert who is wheelchair bound. Throughout the series, she manages to tide over various issues thanks to help from neighbours, friends and several support schemes available.
