Chua Enlai

In this four-part documentary series, comedic actor Chua Enlai embarks on a zany, international exploration of artificial intelligence. He examines A.I.’s potential to become like us and how it will transform humanity such as redefining love and relationships; expanding the boundaries of creativity and intelligence; recalibrating the international balance of power; and testing the limits of ethics, morality and spirituality. Will A.I. change us for the better or for the worse?

Wang Jiahao is a rebellious youth being raised singlehandedly by his mother, Xiufen, a widow. Many schools refuse him entry, so Xiufen resorts to working two jobs a day to enrol him in a private school. Jiahao does not appreciate her sacrifices, and spends his time aimlessly with Lollipop, Otahman and Coco. Jiahao’s aunt, Wang Xiaohui, works in a production company under Yang Dadao. Her dream is to shoot a movie someday. She is exploited by Dadao, who gives her the menial and troublesome tasks.

The Noose is a parody of local news programmes such as News 5 Tonight, with fictional news reports and a presentation mimicking that of the real news. For example, every episode of News 5 Tonight begins with a CGI clock indicating the time, while every episode of the first two seasons of The Noose would spoof it by displaying the time using something more mundane, such as a plastic clock hanging on a wall. At the beginning of every episode, there is a candid disclaimer telling the viewer that the stories are not true. Each episode stars Michelle Chong, Chua En Lai, Alaric Tay and Suhaimi Yusof, with various actors and actresses as newscasters and interviewees, often with parodic mannerisms and names.

Parental Guidance is a Singaporean drama produced by local TV station MediaCorp and airs on MediaCorp Channel 5 on Thursdays at 8.30pm starting on 8 February 2007 to 3 May 2007 for a total of 13 episodes.
