April 1959. Tanya Meshcherskaya, who grew up in an orphanage, goes to Moscow to her father, academician Viktor Ryabinsky. She has a letter with her and an antique brooch left over from her mother, which is being stolen. Vikenty is happy to find a daughter, as he loved her mother, but his wife takes Tanya with hostility. The action takes place from April to December 1986. The KGB department of the USSR becomes aware of the interest shown by foreign intelligence services in the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. To establish the whereabouts of an experienced CIA officer, Albert Lenz, who is suspected of espionage, on the territory of Pripyat, Lieutenant Colonel of military counterintelligence Andrey Nikolaev arrives in the city.
