The invaders are leaving the northern town of the young Soviet republic. The brave underground activist Alexei Ilyutinsky infiltrates a musical troupe organized to entertain the White Army command and boost the morale of the population. The new horn player, who has no musical ear whatsoever, passes on the White Army's defense plan to the Reds and saves Bolshevik Makeev, the former chairman of the provincial executive committee, from being shot.

IV Cavalry Regiment of “the Great Prince Konstantin Konstantinovic“ returned from the Balkan Wars to Belgrade railway station at four o`clock in the afternoon on the 3rd August 1913, where it was welcomed and greeted by a great number of Belgrade citizens. The regiment then went to the camp in Banjica to join the troops which paraded through the capital city, particularly ready for the official reception of the Serbian victors on the 11th August 1913.

The material for the film was a unique photograph of the Kexholm regiment, taken in 1903. A photographic plate 65 by 110 cm (more than 1000 people in the frame) made it possible to clearly reproduce both entire groups and individual faces of soldiers. All filmed in one shot. The counterpoint to the image is fragments of letters and memoirs of soldiers and officers of the pre-revolutionary army. At all times, for the Russian soldier, the main principles were love for the Motherland, loyalty to the oath, and sacrifice.
