The film consists of several short stories. Between them, always the same leitmotif appears – a short joke with a different ending. The stories are always about absurd and ridiculous situations depicting the relationship between a man and birds.

Mishka, a schoolboy, runs away from home because of a quarrel between his parents. In one day of travelling, the boy observes the big world around him. And by dawn he decides to return home.

Since 1960, Long Point Bird Observatory has been operating a research station at the extreme eastern tip of Long Point, Ontario where scientists study bird migration. The tip itself is the longest (about 40 km) freshwater sand spit in the world and is the last remaining wilderness in southern Ontario. Long Point is also designated as a Globally Important Bird Area (395 species). Because of its remote location in the middle of Lake Erie, weather and waves are constantly shaping and reshaping this landscape.

ORNITHOLOGY 4 was displayed in 2016 in "Peephole Cinema - Kintoscopic Records," a showcase of contemporary media artists evoking the proto- and early cinema experiences of the peep show. This rendition at Union Docs in Brooklyn was programmed by Dan Streible.
