A documentary about the almost mythical "Latvian gold" - where it comes from and what's being done with it.

Latvians have left their land for all corners of the earth over the last centuries – either driven out for disobeying the powers at large, or due to wars and revolutions, or with visions of a better life. And not always to an easier life. But there was only one place where an anti-Latvian campaign was waged, where every Latvian was treated as a spy, a traitor, and the enemy, and therefore deserved to be tortured and shot. This was during the 1937 repression in Russia, where the horror and pathologies, made Latvians into betrayers and murderers of their own kind.

The moment when the lights on the stage suddenly go out and the dancer finds himself completely alone in the digital environment, the way back to the viewer must be sought again. Only by looking at oneself, Latvianness and the code of identity - in the lines and patterns of Latvian signs, an unimaginable power will be revealed. And one to one, two to four, tens to hundreds, and "one" will be "we" again. "To dress in Latvian signs" ("Latvju zīmēs rotāties") is a special and unique event in the history of Latvian stage folk dance, because instead of the usual stadium or stage format, the signs are arranged in a digital environment, merging hundreds of dancers with tradition, animations and editing possibilities. Also, what has been unprecedented in the context of stage folk dance is the sound quality with which this performance offers to listen to 15 original compositions based on folk lyrics by Mārtiņš Miļevsks.

Unearthing layers of earth, melting, shaping, and creating for the future. The practices of Germans Ermičs and Artis Nīmanis differ, so do the materials they use, yet both are among the most internationally acclaimed Latvian designers. What unites them is their dedication to materiality, though they each follow different personal and creative paths. Ermičs’ “magic of material and colour” emerges from glass, marble, and metal – he moves freely between the Netherlands, Latvia, and Portugal, as well as between the disciplines of design and visual art. Meanwhile in Latvia, under the brand “an&angel” Nīmanis deconstructs the concept of glass – in each of his pieces, he breathes a sense of the presence of nature.

Kazimirs Šusts, Jānis Mencis, Imants Zeltiņš, Kārlis Smiltēns – they were born and raised at the same time as the Latvian state, and together with it they were drawn into a war in which both the state and the people's hope and struggle was to stay alive.
