Masterpiece or Forgery? The Story of Elmyr De Hory

Elmyr de Hory was called "The Myth of our Century" when he was revealed as a master forger in 1968. Born in 1905, he made an estimated 1000 fake paintings, primarily in the style of the post-impressionists before he died - or disappeared - in 1976. In addition to faking paintings, Elmyr de Hory often faked his own identity, and traveled easily throughout Europe's high society.

Cruel Art World Story: Forgery
0.0

The story unfolds through the perspective of a young painter in his twenties named Kang. Torn between love and art, he finds himself standing on the fragile line between success and survival, facing the temptations of ghost painting and the shadow of forgery. At the same time, the film interweaves a story from thirty years earlier: a talented painter who, under the crushing weight of poverty, was forced to abandon his pride and create paintings under someone else’s name. Through this parallel narrative, the film contrasts the conscience of the artist with the harsh realities of life.

A letter from the dead man to his wife seems to dispel any doubt that it could have been murder. Lieutenant Dusek, however, investigates further. Much more than he, however, learns about the true circumstances from Mrs. Olga's legal advisor, Dr. Klimesh. He learns that the letter is indeed a forgery and that Brand's death is linked to the raids of an anti-state gang. He hesitates for a long time whether to confide in security, believing that doing so would testify in favor of Dusek's theory that the murder was committed by Olga...
