Filmmaker Drew Thomas brings California's popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the screen with a different kind of musical documentary that not only showcases performances by some of the hottest acts to take the stage, but offers interviews with such musical icons as Beck, Joshua Homme, Mos Def, and Perry Farrell as well. From English icon Morrissey's performance at the inaugural Coachella Festival back in 1999 to Canadian indie rockers the Arcade Fire's electric 2005 set, the musical acts featured here run the gamut from hip-hop to alternative and virtually everything in between. Other artists featured include the Pixies, the Flaming Lips, Kool Keith, Radiohead, Saul Williams, and Squarepusher.

The Weeknd had a good weekend. As he sort-of-promised by retweeting a fan several days ago, the Weeknd turned up at Coachella on Friday night during producer Metro Boomin’s set. For the live debut, Dean’s saxophone rumbled through the Sahara Tent while the crowd was blinded by The Weeknd’s fluorescent, all-white ensemble, along with the lights. The Weeknd first performed his solo songs “Faith,” “Escape from LA,” and “Heartless” before Future joined the artists for “Low Life.” From there, Abel Tesfaye debuted “Double Fantasy,” a song from his upcoming HBO series The Idol. The artists closed the set with “Creepin,” which also featured 21 Savage and Diddy.

Probably the biggest pull at the Outdoor Theatre was for electronic producer Zedd. During weekend one, there was a revolving door of guests such as John Mayer and Maren Morris, but weekend two might have been even bigger.

Ariana Grande headlined Coachella in 2019, becoming the youngest artist to do so. She performed her hits from her "thank u, next" album and also featured surprise guests like Nicki Minaj, *NSYNC and Justin Bieber. Her weekend 2 set was generally well-received, while weekend 1 had some technical issues with special guests.
