At long last, one of the most important novels in Norwegian history will be made into a film. Beatles relates the story of four Oslo boys born in 1951 and hooked on The Beatles, from the time they as seventh graders find themselves on the threshold of the adult world. The film is all about boyish pranks, hopes, disappointments, and of course about pretty girls, hopeless infatuations, drunkenness and parties. The world is changing, and so is the friendship between the boys. But the conclusion is, true friendship endures all - and no band in the world is better than The Beatles.

For one night, Dutch band The Analogues are bringing the Beatles back to Paris for this special tribute concert. Lucky concertgoers can once again return to the unique world created by the Fab Four at the French capital's famed venue Salle Pleyel.

In addition to taking the usual form of a Tape-beatles release (a CD), The Grand Delusion was also delivered in the form of an ‘expanded cinema’ presentation involving three-screen motion picture projections and sound. The screen space for this production is intended to be three times the width of the normal 3 to 4 "Edison" aspect ratio of 16mm. The presentation only uses the full width intermittently, so transitions from one form to the next has been translated here by means of a video effect. As a live performance presentation, The Grand Delusion has been screened in dozens of venues across North America and Europe.

Taking its cue from our previous ‘expanded cinema’ work The Grand Delusion, Matter, too, uses a three-screen tryptych arrangement in the live presentation. Matter, however, uses the flanking loops a bit differently. Where the previous work created widescreen collage spectacles braced with symmetries and compositional nuance, Matter’s loops superimpose visual rhythms on top of the musical ones, emphasizing first the downbeat, then the accent, then perhaps falling between beats. Something like jazz, the effect is not lock-step, but rather a looser relationship between rhythm and melody, and in this case, the visuals are included in that formula.
