A story about a man overly influenced by the women in his life, which is unique in many ways, including the fact that he somehow turned out to be "straight" in spite of his ordeals with women, which started at birth.

Joshua visits his grandfather, a survivor of Auschwitz, five days before his tenth birthday. The elder recalls own childhood in polish countryside at his grandparents'. The grandma had many hens, which were real friends for him. As a young boy he was very sad when each Friday he had to choose one hen to be sacrificed as a Sabbath dinner. In his tenth birthday he received one hen as a gift. Now, as an old man, he gives the same gift to Joshua.

Czechoslovakia, 1952. For some, life under the post-war Stalinist regime is hardly worth living and although the escape route to the West is almost suicide, the rewards - prosperity, political freedom, even luxury - make it a risk worth taking.

CIA agent Harry Wargrave is sent to aid Gen. Marenkov, a senior Russian official, who is defecting to the west. Several murders of nuclear scientists, that baffles Scotland Yard, occur in London about the same time that Bill Locklin, a special officer from the United States State Department, arrives to oversee the transfer of Professor Leon Dushenko, a Russian scientist who as fled the U.S.S.R. An attempt is made on Dushenko's life with a monkey's paw-print found at the scene.

Oldřich Nový was and will forever remain the embodiment of charm, elegance and personal charm for Czech cinema, to which all women, regardless of age, were subject. In his unforgettable lover roles, he was not only a romantic who was able to fall in love with a girl from an ancient painting, succumb to the chocolate-brown eyes of the minister's girlfriend, but also a seducer for whom infidelity was a regularly practiced sport, or, conversely, a newlywed obsessed with jealousy. This was exactly Viktorin, the main character of a crazy Art Nouveau comedy, where everything revolves around a massive deer antler. Its involuntary owner becomes the jealous Viktorin, and it is certainly not difficult to guess what such a "right" gift can cause.

The younger brother of a brave paratrooper killed by the Nazis joins a partisan unit to avenge his death. The story is still naive in many ways, but the foundations of resistance myths are already being laid here.
