While playing a young kitten falls from the window of it's home and lands on a truck that drives it far across the city of Moscow. Helpless, afraid and clueless how to get home, it encounters many dangers but also lots of friendly people and animals helping the little cat. After many adventures in the big city, the kitten finally finds it's way home, thanks to it's new friends.

The action takes place in pre-revolutionary Russia, during the period when persecution of Jews began. Tevye's already difficult life is further complicated by a series of events that test his faith. Three women in their thirties live in the summer with their young sons in the dacha. Svetlana, Tatiana and Ira are third cousins, and they raise their children alone. The women quarrel, finding out who owns half of the dacha, whose son is the offender and whose son is the offended... Svetlana and Tatiana live at the dacha for free, but the ceiling leaks on their half. Ira rents a room from Fedorovna, the owner of the other half of the dacha, but she is not allowed to use the toilet belonging to her sisters.

A flutist in the forgotten past, at present the husband of a “big man’s” daughter and head of one of the Chief Directorate’s sections felt unwell one day: the forty-year-old man had a pain in his heart.
