Yevgeni Perov

The story about a very small god-forgotten village in Siberia reflects the history of Russia from the beginning of the century till the early 1980s. Three generations try to find the land of happiness and to give it to the people. One builds the road through taiga to the star over horizon, the second 'build communism' and the third searches for oil.

Petrov, a young doctor working in Saransk, is summoned to a Mordovian village to assist in a surgery. Despite initial hostility from the local doctor, new acquaintances prompt Petrov to reconsider his life.

Based on the stories of A.P. Chekhov.

The movie intertwines the plot lines of the stories "In the Bathhouse", "Tears Invisible to the World", "A Conversation between a Man and a Dog" and others. By the will of the film's creators, the viewer gets to the rehearsals of an unusual choir and gets acquainted with the stories of the singers - diverse, but invariably amusing.
