Heiner and his friend Florian go canoeing on the river Mosel. With them is Monika, Heiner's sister, as Heiner's wife hasn't got time to be with them. But as a joke, Heiner passes Monika off as his wife, and while Monika likes the conceit initially, it becomes a problem when she falls in love with Florian who however wants to remain loyal to his friend. Things get complicated when the trio meet Susanne and Tilo, another canoeing couple, and when finally Heiner's wife Nora arrives, too. Soon quite a bit of partner-swapping seems imminent...

For many years, old Mr. Brugg has been employed at the jewelry store owned by the elegant Mrs. Hellmers. His son Peter has also been working there for some time as a salesman and hopes for a promotion. When Mr. Brugg is knocked unconscious during a robbery, Mrs. Hellmers sends him into well-deserved retirement. Flor also has a grown-up son by her, Lukas, who is becoming increasingly critical of his fathers behavior with every passing year.

Counterfeit money is discovered near the Bodensee. The investigators for the "Reichszentrale für Falschmünzerei" get wind of it and open up an investigation. When the band of counterfeiters try to recruit a young graphic artist into their ranks, he quickly rats on them to the police. The investigation soon leads to Switzerland, where the nest of criminals is stormed with the help of the Swiss police.
