Thomas, a young illustrator, learns that he has got his dream job while cycling through the streets of Montreal. As he pedals along, he phones his boyfriend to tell him the good news. Unfortunately, Thomas hits a pothole, falls off his bike and breaks his arm. Plastered and depressed, he can no longer draw. His encounter with a little girl changes his perspective on life.

In the mid-1970s, Rico, a 9-year-old Haitian boy, was brutally torn from his native land along with Erzulie, his mother, to a strange planet called Canada. Since their arrival, a distance seems to have grown between mother and son. To regain the love of his mother, Rico will have to understand this New World populated by individuals with strange habits and customs. Fortunately for him, he can count on Kana, his imaginary friend who comes straight out of Haitian mythology.

"Hiko" follows the story of an 11-year-old boy, Hiko, who runs away during a neighborhood festival after a disagreement with his mother over refusing to wear makeup. He stumbles upon a mysterious circus tent, where an unexpected encounter challenges his understanding of himself. This magical adventure compels him to confront personal choices and explore the expression of his own identity.
