Three women, one family: Monika the mother, Angie the older sister and Kiki the baby of the family. Angie is a reality-TV star who is doggedly clinging onto her fading career. Fresh out of rehab, she suddenly finds herself without any money, friends or a place to live and is condemned to returning to her mother in her hated dump of a hometown. Angie's teenage sister Kiki is also finding life tough-going. Due to her epilepsy, her mother Monika insists that she wears a freaky protective helmet. The consequence: Kiki is ostracised and bullied, her life has long since become the hell from which her mother is trying to protect her.

After Willy Unterkofer, an old acquaintance of the Germingers, is murdered, Franz Junior takes over the investigation together with Karl and Anna and a family quarrel soon arises. Franz Senior and Erika seem to want to steer the youngsters in a certain direction. Their credo is that the past should be put to rest, but this makes Franz Junior and Anna even more curious about what the seniors are hiding. The fronts soon harden and everything is at stake: not only Schwarzach 23, but also the whole family...

Taking place at the Concentration camp Buchenwald at the end of March 1945, prisoner Hans Pippig discovers in a carrying case of an incoming prisoner a Jewish child. If reported the three-year-old is sure to die. On the other hand, a violation of the rules of the camp would threaten the long prepared uprising of the concentration camp prisoners against the SS.
