The film takes us on a journey from Mogenson's childhood to manhood and throughout his career which spanned more than twenty years, first with great success in a popular vocal group and later as a successful solo artist. There is a long period that John Mogensen can never be satisfied and he is confused by what are the things he truely loves and is willing to do everything for. Is it the music, the stage, the fame or his family?

Jesper Jensen is a successful IT salesman who stops at nothing, even if it means backstabbing his best friend. Istedgade is told in four stories that take place on the same day in or around Istedgade in Copenhagen and together form a lyrical portrait of the city and four women. We meet the flamboyant Emma, who wants so badly to please her boyfriend; the cautious Ida, who doesn't dare choose love; the hungry Nadia, who dreams of stardom; and the pregnant Sophie, who can't feel herself.

Two brothers commit a robbery to pay their dying mother's medical bills and are forced to steal an ambulance during their getaway. But, unbeknownst to them, the ambulance has a dying heart patient and a hospital intern in the back.

A crew of young, small-time crooks screws up. Ripping off a shipping container of Chinese silk for a Rasta gang, they also come away with two and a half kilos of heroin belonging to the Latvian mafia. A friend of theirs, Jens (Kim Bodnia), a plainclothes cop, tries to mediate, but instead all barrels are turned on him. The Latvians and the Chinese want him. Jamaican dope growers, ice-cold Serbian heroin dealers and Polish human smugglers are gunning for him. And to top it all off, he also has to dodge his fellow officers, backed by the scuba corps and elite-forces soldiers, to save his young friends.
