In 1964, Henri-Georges Clouzot's production of L'Enfer came to a halt. Despite huge expectations, major studio backing and an unlimited budget, after three weeks the production collapsed. This documentary presents Inferno's incredible expressionistic original rushes, screen tests, and on-location footage, whilst also reconstructing Clouzot's original vision, and shedding light on the ill-fated endeavor through interviews, dramatizations of unfilmed scenes, and Clouzot's own notes.

Orion commander Cliff Allister McLane, galactic war hero and unconventional daredevil in the service of the world government, is transferred with his crew to the space patrol. On top of that, Colonel Villa, head of the Galactic Security Service, provides him with the attractive agent Tamara Jagellovsk as a chaperone. A supernova directed by exoterrists on Earth's course is destroyed at the last minute when Orion is abandoned. However, the next wave of attacks by the Frogs comes with the support of terrestrial revolutionaries.
