Oberdan Rossi is half Jewish and a fascist. After coming back from the Ethiopian war, he becomes disillusioned and works as a journalist.

Aldo is an introverted boy who loves photography and exploring caves. An earthquake strikes while he is exploring a cave, probably caused by an atomic explosion. Reaching the surface, Aldo discovers that radioactivity has destroyed any trace of human life.

Cristina turns eighteen and leaves her bourgeois family to become a call-girl. But soon, her clients start turning up dead, their throats slashed. Who is responsible?

The film centers on young revolutionary student Gilberto who is being sought by the police. To avoid arrest, he boards a train and travels home. The house now seems somehow haunted, as doors slam shut and shadows are seen running throughout the corridors. But Gilberto soon discovers that it's his own troubled conscience that is torn in two. He hesitates as one part tells him to accept the attraction that his father's 'world' exerts on him whilst the other orders him to destroy everything to pursue his own ideals.

Because of his difficult character, Colonel Lennox, commanding at Fort Sharp, a remote outpost on the border of the United States is hated by the soldiers of his troop. The situation is even more complicated when the fort is attacked by Indians.
