Martin has failed as a veterinary surgeon and works in research. But then he loses this job too. He is neither stupid nor lazy, just incredibly scatterbrained. His girlfriend Tessa has had enough and throws him out. Martin is left in a shambles. Just at this moment, he receives a call from his mother Beate: his father Henning, a veteran country vet, has broken his arm and needs Martin's help.

Christmas is just two weeks away, it is pouring with rain, and Ben is struggling to get into the Christmas spirit. Suddenly, Bens life takes a turn for the better when Santa Niklas Goodfellow and his Christmas caravan come crashing down to Earth in the middle of thunderstorm and land in Foggy Lane. Santa is on the run from the ruthless Gerold Geronimus Goblynch and his army of nutcrackers who have outlawed all of the old magical ways and have transformed the bright and peaceful Christmas world into a dark and hostile place, governed by greed and money. Goblynch has banned work for all Santas and confined the Christmas angels to tiny prison cells, where they can no longer hear the dearest wishes of children. Goblynch also wants to force Santa Niklas Goodfellow, the last real Santa, to work for his commercialized Christmas company and forces him to do hard labour in the ordering department of the Christmas Palace.

Each night, like every other child in the world, Miko goes to Dreamland thanks to magic sand dispersed by the Sandman. But one night, the evil dream Habumar steals the Sand of Dreams and takes control of Dreamland. The Sandman and his faithful sheep Neopomuk ask Miko to help them get back the precious sand, and to hence foil the plans of terrifying Habumar. So begins a great adventure in a world where all is possible.

London art dealer Ben Hoadey has a cardiac arrest while flying his helicopter, just able to land on Geoffrey Arland's Cornish coast estate. Ben takes Dr. Gerome's advice to stop working and stays indefinitely in the sleepy resort town. He's romantically interested in wheelchair-bound Geoffrey's wife June, who nurses both men and the doctor's other patients. Ben's jealous ex Rebecca tries to spoil everything with a dirty deal.

In Hamburg, the police are faced with a mystery after a series of burglaries: there are no clues at the crime scene except for a Japanese character. The characters are soon found all over the city.
