Over the course of a century, as four girls from different time periods experience their youth on a German farm, their lives become intertwined until time seems to dissolve.

A janitor with a loving wife and a devoted son leads a seemingly quiet, orderly life. One day, the boy asks his father an inconspicuous but profound question: “Dad, why are there no photos of you at my age?” Driven by a restlessness that can no longer be suppressed, the man returns to the place of his childhood: a children's home he has avoided for decades.

Skalde lives in a small rural community, far from a world that may no longer exist. She is an interloper in her own home, having been born to an ‘outsider’ mother and therefore marked by a social stigma she cannot easily erase. Displaying a loyalty to the codes of the community, she has earned the respect of the village elder. However, when she encounters a mysterious girl in the local woods, Skalde risks everything by befriending her, eventually giving the girl a home.

As a young man, he meets Iro, a warden in the prison where he is incarcerated after a deadly tragic accident. She seems to seek out his presence, takes care of him, records music for him. Jon’s eyesight begins to fail... From then on, for every loss he suffers, he will gain something in return. Thus, in spite of going blind, he will live his life more fully than ever.

Inside the Ravensbrück concentration camp, one hundred thousand women from forty-two different nations live together - the camp brings out the best and the worst in each of them. This is the story of four of these women: Gertrud, Leah, Aga and Mar.
