Philharmonia Orchestra

Universe of Sound has won the 2013 Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Audiences and Engagement. The award recognizes an outstanding initiative by an organisation or individual to engage new and existing audiences with classical music in the UK in 2012. The RPS commented "The Philharmonia cements its position as a World leader in the use of digital media" and that the project "provided a thrilling interactive experience for all ages"

Katherine Jenkins introduces a look back at the outdoor concert given by the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti, then 55, in July 1991 to celebrate 30 years of singing opera. The star studded audience included the Prince and Princess of Wales, Michael Caine and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Opera is an inherently theatrical medium that does not lend itself readily to the realism of film treatment. The shining exception is Puccini's Tosca, an action-packed melodrama that unfolds in three taut and gripping acts like the meatiest of Hollywood films noir. And unlike most operas, these three acts are set in three very specific Roman locales. Thus this 1976 film takes place in the church of Sant'Andrea della Valle (Act 1), the Palazzo Farnese (Act 2), and the Castel Sant'Angelo (Act 3).
