Shane Carwin was expected to face Roy Nelson in the event's headliner. However, Carwin suffered a knee injury and was replaced by Matt Mitrione.

UFC on Fuel TV 1: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger was the first UFC event to air exclusively on Fuel TV. It was held on February 15, 2012, at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska. The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs Team Koscheck Finale, also referred to as The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the Palms Casino Resort in Paradise, Nevada, United States on December 4, 2010. This was the first event in the UFC to integrate the featherweight & bantamweight classes from World Extreme Cagefighting, which folded later that month. It was also the first event to feature a then-contracted WEC lightweight fighter (Pablo Garza) in a UFC contest, though he debuted in the UFC at featherweight.

Bellator I was a mixed martial arts event by Bellator Fighting Championships. The event took place on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It was broadcast nationally in the U.S. via tape-delay the following night on Saturday, April 4, 2009 through an exclusive television agreement with ESPN Deportes. The event featured quarter-final tournament bouts of the 2009 Featherweight (145 lbs) and Lightweight (155 lbs) Tournaments, along with a number of non-tournament bouts to be held in the organization's other weight divisions. All bouts were contested under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts.

WEC 36: Faber vs. Brown took place on November 5, 2008 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event aired live on the Versus Network. Paulo Filho fought again against Chael Sonnen in the main event of the evening. WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber also put his belt on the line against Mike Brown.
