Goodbye, Boys! is the coming-of-age tale of three teenagers graduating from a Communist school during World War II. It's summer, and their main goals are swimming in the Black Sea and wooing the girl all three of them love. However, they are asked to become officers in the military, and slowly their worlds begin changing forever. Their parents oppose them, they begin fearing losing each other and their families, and the military tricks and maneuvers them into joining the army instead of the navy.

The film is set in the 1930s in the USSR. The film tells about one day of the construction of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. The heroes of the film are simple construction workers who are burning at work. Upon learning that their colleagues in Kharkov have set a record, they mobilize to break it. The entire construction site was engulfed in immense socialist competition. The teams are ready to complete the work on time at any cost. A Moscow journalist who has come to cover the scale of the great construction project is looking for the hero of his report...

Vacationing in a Crimean sanatorium, Nikolai Nikanorovich Staroseltsev finds someone else's wallet on the beach and gives it to the administration of the sanatorium to return it to the owner. Having become a find for bored mass-entertainers, Nikolai Nikanorovich does not stand the test of fame - and prematurely leaves the resort.

Genka Sakhnenko, a seventeen-year-old boy, has been passionate about pigeon breeding since childhood. But he begins to make a living, falls in love with the girl Tanya and realizes that it is time to leave his childhood hobbies.

It is May 1912. Thirteen political prisoners are being tried in a naval fortress of Kronstadt. They are sentenced to death by hanging. A clandestine Bolshevik organization decides to free the prisoners during their transfer to the place of execution. Vasily Panin, a junker of a school of naval engineers, is one of those entrusted with this dangerous task.

The end of the 50s. The former head of the department Bulygin is sent from Moscow to Siberia to build a bridge across the Severnaya River. With him goes his family: his wife, son, daughter and his daughter's fiancé. Once an experienced builder, and now just an overbearing official, Bulygin cannot find common ground with the workers, and people begin to leave the construction site. However, after many experiences and mental trials Bulygin regains the features of a skillful leader.
