I — a fledgling novelist — first met her, my wife, ten years ago, during the final summer of university. I was the one who introduced her to him, my one and only best friend. Before long, the three of us grew close, opening our hearts to one another. Manta Okamoto is a strange young man. He is prone to spontaneous tantrums. On the verge of hikikomori, he faces reality through numbers and with a brain full of crisp ideas. He’s also the most creative editor in the magazine where he works, even if he’s always late. One day, one of his seniors at the publishing house offers him a job: he could earn a lot of money just by taking care of a cardboard box for a few days. On the other side of town, a group of gangsters are missing something and will do anything to get it back.

Three women in Yokohama who have their own troubles and thoughts and are seeking salvation. They relied on the “date therapists” to heal the women, save the world, and be lovers for one night.

Yoshida, a former parliamentarian's secretary, took the fall for a murder in place of the trusted politician and ended up in prison. He awaited the day when the said politician would prove his innocence and get him released from prison. One day, while sharing a four-person cell, Machida was sent to solitary confinement for losing his temper. There were rumors within the prison that those sent to solitary confinement for punishment would mysteriously die and never return. However, Machida came back unharmed. Yet, the rumors continued, stating that returning from solitary confinement without a mysterious death was the real issue.
