After Ina’s boyfriend leaves her, she gets married but the marriage is short-lived when he is killed in an accident. Ina gets acquainted with Hari who claims to be a businessman but is actually a fugitive. Ina is seduced and agrees to marry Hari. He spends Ina’s wealth to finance his gang of criminals. Ina is clueless and she even borrows money and jewelry from her friends to support Hari’s ailing business. Being a police target, Hari feels threatened and flees. Ina realizes she has been manipulated and is thrown to jail because she cannot pay up her debts. In jail, she bumps into Hari. The police are using Hari to expose the crime of his fellow gang members. He is collaborating to minimize his punishment and to free his wife from any charges.

After the graduation from “Sekolah Kepandaian Putri” (Female-Skill School) or SKP, Lena works as a housemaid for Toto’s family as she cannot afford to continue her education. Pardan is also living in the same house. When she returns from “tetirah” (a Javanese term for a short vacation in a health resort), Mrs. Toto is agitated by the presence of the new housemaid from SKP. Toto calms her down by making up a story that Lena is actually the fiancée of Pardan. But the pretence becomes real love and Pardan and Lena finally get married.

While it is uncertain, the film is believed to be inspired by the story of Nyai Dasima, about the terrible fate of a rich widow who ends up as a murder victim because of her wealth.

Tarmina is a selfish wife. She asks Hadi for a divorce after he goes bankrupt. She leaves him and daughter, Juriah, and remarries a tycoon. One day, the second husband has an accident near where Hadi is standing. Tarmina accuses Hadi of causing the accident. When the second husband learns about Tarmina's unkind nature, he divorces her. Then Tarmina marries a third time with a restaurant owner, but not long after, she divorces again. When Hadi is released from jail, he returns to a happy life with his daughter. In desperation, Tarmina tries to return to them. But she realizes that she has committed so many wrongs to her husband and child. Instead, she ends her life by plunging into the river.

Even though he was an orphan, Herman was serious about developing himself in the arts. Moreover, he received encouragement from Kustari, his mother's niece. Herman went to Jakarta to enter the film world. For a while, he stayed at Mukhsin's house. Later, Mukhsin was instrumental in bringing Kustari, who caught the attention of director Hendra. The pairing of Kustari and Herman was successful, the two new stars were liked by the audience.

Kasim, a rich man lives by lending money by collecting taxes from the residents in his place, most of whom are farmers. In addition, Kasim also opened an illegal gambling place disguised as a coffee shop. As an attraction, the shop provided dancers and singers. In this way, many farmers, especially young people, were forced to borrow money from Kasim and most of the money they used to gamble which eventually returned to Kasim.

Hartoyo and Sanusi, who had been friends since they were TNI, registered themselves as development soldiers to be sent to Harapan Island. Sanusi's younger sister, Aesah, was Hartoyo's girlfriend. Sanusi's mother passed away and then Sanusi also passed away. This made Aesah like someone who had lost her memory, wandering "along Malioboro". Luckily Hartono returned and looked for Aesah.

Because he was tempted by Atmo's story from the city, Dul left the village. In the city, Dul and Atmo stayed at the house of Moh. Uskar who had a beautiful daughter, Hayati. After their money ran out, Dul and Atmo started looking for work. They never stayed in a job for long, and were always fired for doing something stupid. Uskar was finally thrown out of his boarding house, because he had not paid for food for two months. In that confused state, Dul and Atmo lived in a "ghost house", which turned out to be a gathering place for criminals.

Hardjono gives a handkerchief to his girlfriend, Karnasih, as a token of love. During their holiday together, Karnasih experiences an accident and becomes blind. Hardjono then goes abroad to study eye medicine. Upon his return, he conducts a surgery on his girlfriend's eyes and succeeds.
