Falcino, a small town in the south of Italy. No one sees. No one hears. Nobody talks. But everyone knows. And so they all become accomplices of a tragedy against women, against kids, against a family. A story of violence and slavery. Indifference is stronger than their conscience. Maria, a young mother of a family, lives with her husband Gerardo and her two children, Rocco e Carmela, on her father-in-law's farm: "grandpà" Giuseppe. Gerardo decides to emigrate to Austria to earn more money so as to allow a more comfortable life for the family. This absence will be the beginning of a nightmare that will lead Maria and her daughter to be victims of abuse of an unscrupulous ogre (monster).

This film is on the other hand a Noir fiction set in Basilicata, played out against a spiritual backdrop: Carlo Altieri, a Piedmontese detective with a turbulent past, is hired by a young aristocratic Russian woman intent on finding her boyfriend, who has mysteriously disappeared in Basilicata. Altieri thus begins an intriguing and unpredictable journey through the valleys and badlands of Basilicata and, with the help of a fortune-teller, he starts to unravel an intricate sequence of events that will lead him as far as Matera.

26 year old Francesco's life in Taranto is always the same. He doesn't have a steady job and always hangs out with the same friends. On his 27th birthday he makes an incredible discovery: the candle on his cake, only if broken, is able to fulfil any of his wishes.

Dino and Anna are a couple in their forties. Their relationship is hardly conventional: in fact, it is unconsummated. Dino gets out of it, gratifying himself with prostitutes and swingers. He reaches his nadir when he looks up Anna’s old boyfriends to ask about their sexual relations with her, and even begs them to take her back, as a way to end their relationship. Anna can’t find a way out herself; she can’t bring herself to end this one-of-a-kind, tormented love affair. In the end, Dino’s angst is what makes her feel loved, feel unique. No solution seems to be waiting in the wings.
