Kseniya Kutepova

A feature film based on the novella by Yuri Koval, recounting a whimsical and humorous journey aboard a homemade boat through the Vologda region. The picture consists of two parallel storylines. The first follows the adventures of the novella’s protagonist, whose absurd escapade unexpectedly transforms into a mystical experience amidst the rivers, marshes, and villages of the countryside. The second centers on a theatrical production based on Koval’s book — staged by a group of students — which reveals the backstory: how the book’s hero came to yearn to break free from Moscow and retreat far away from everyone — including his friends — deep into the heart of nature.

The film tells the story of the final years of the life of Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia. It follows his devoted wife, Empress Alexandra; his son, Tsarevich Alexei; his daughters, Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia; and his brother, Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich. The love and loyalty of those closest to Nicholas accompanied him through the most difficult years of his life. But they could not protect him from betrayal. The treachery and cowardice of members of the Romanov dynasty, politicians of every kind, and generals who had sworn allegiance to the throne ultimately led to the collapse of the empire. The story of the imperial family unfolds against the backdrop of a tragic turning point in history.

The beginning of the 2000s. New realities, instant adaptation to the proposed circumstances, enchanting careers, unexpected unknown professions... All this could have happened only at the turn of the century, when the Soviet system instantly went out of fashion, replaced by the lightning invasion of the Western world in a grotesque parody. The main character of the film is an inconspicuous girl Nadezhda Strakhova. Nadezhda, oddly enough, is married. Her husband, Vitalik, a provincial, married a childless Nadezhda for the sake of a Moscow residence permit and a typical "Khrushchev" on the outskirts of Moscow. Nadezhda works two jobs to support her small family: in the mornings in the district library and in the evenings in the theater wardrobe. One day her life changes dramatically.

In Russia, an introverted father and his teenage daughter live on the road in a van that contains their entire life, including the equipment for a travelling cinema: the source of their meager income. Povolotsky builds on the undeniable art of the long take, on both the scale of the imposing landscapes and the tight interior of their cramped vehicle. The nameless father and daughter rove around the extremities of their vast country, from south to north. On its margins, the pulse of independent drifters who endure and resist.

German and Lera are preparing for the wedding. The groom is going to give his beloved a car, but the car dealership insists on taking her for a test drive. The salon's salesman turns out to be Lera's ex-boyfriend, Maks, a reckless stuntman who is trying to make money on his stunt videos while working part-time at a car dealership.

Liza works at night, a taxi ride for her is a moment of much-desired peace. The driver Sasha inspires confidence, he knows the approach to the most demanding client. There are many unexpected turns in the lights of the big city, behind each of which lies a terrible threat. And perhaps the main danger is closer than it seems.

The main character was a standout high school student and graduated university at the highest level. When he reached his 30-s he has found himself a failure: his wife left him for a successful boxer, he got fired from a misearable job, and a morgage that he had to keep up paying off for years ahead. At the most desperate moment the character finds out that that his cunning classmate (Danila Kozlovsky) has become a prosperous businessman and announced a competition for high school students with the prize fund of over a million or rubbles. The main character looks a lot younger than he is, he even gets asked if he is of age when buying alcholol. He gets rid of his beard, fakes his DOB in ID and decides to take a chance in the competition assured that expirience can take over youth.

In a nostalgic Moscow of 1976, an unlucky actor meets a charismatic writer, a living classic of Soviet literature, who turns his life into a tragicomic farce with the artistic bohemia, foreign-currency prostitutes, the KGB staff and agents of the CIA.

34-year-old physicist-astronomer Ignat Halley, fascinated by the stars and work at the mountain observatory, flies to the capital to file for a divorce. In Moscow, under unusual circumstances, Ignat meets a mysterious girl Taisia Artemyev and meets her whole family: mother Yulia, sister Dusya and intelligent, eccentric grandmother Yanga Lvovna. This meeting turns everything upside down in the life of an astronomer. And on New Year's Eve, Ignat will have to make an important decision that will change not only his life, but also his new acquaintances.
