But Irina believes that her husband has died. The chairman of the Cheka, learning of Lavrov's visit, gives him the opportunity to take Irina to France and gives her a new assignment and a password for Andrei.

The assistant captain of a foreign merchant ship, Chief, contacts an international drug cartel. He agrees to transport a large shipment of drugs in unmarked containers. The markings will be added later, only at the shipper's request. Unexpectedly, the ship has to call at a Soviet port to refuel.

Successful film director Dmitry Pavlovich must fly by plane to Moscow and then to Rome. But the phone rings in his house and he is told that his old mother, who lives in Melovatka, his native village, has fallen ill. Dmitry Pavlovich hires a taxi and begins his “autumn journey to his mother.”

The new reality changes the usual life in the village of Babylon. Attempts to communize the small town are met with resistance from the rich people living in the town. The Red Army finally puts down the resistance. Amidst the resistance philosopher Fabian returns to Babylon and tries to prevent bloodshed, but he meets a tragic fate.
