October 16, 1817: a farmer discovers the corpse of Luigia Bacchi, the woman missing a few days before. At the cemetery, the night before, it was stolen the dead body of Victoria Clementi, the suicidal girl alleged murderer of Luigia Bacchi. The investigations are closed hastily. The Inspector Augusto Donati begins a personal investigation that led him to reconnect these two deaths with an infanticide committed few months earlier. Meanwhile,on July 23, 2017, Anna Persico, perfectly lookalike Vittoria Clementi, continues to be haunted by her doppelganger. Police investigates on the disappearance of Angela, the best friend of Anna, and on the kidnapping of Chiara Ferrari, a girl missing for months, found alive and exactly identical to Luigia Bacchi.

In 2017 Anna continues to be persecuted by her look-a-like dead two hundred years before. In 1818 investigations into the death of Luigi Bacchi and the infanticide Emma Rigoni are assigned to a new detective.

July 22nd 2017, at first light. Anna Persico awakes and find a red box near her bed. Inside, just a note with incomprehensible symbols. From that moment, her life totally changes. Few moments later Anna's phone rings: it's a friend asking help. Just few and upset words asking Anna reaching her in a forsaken mansion in the nearby before the phone line breaks. At the same time, on October 15th 1817, police commissioner Fosco Oleari investigates on suicide of Vittoria Clementi, a girl who looks just alike Anna. On the crime scene there are also a cane and a gown soiled of blood. Local doctor's wife is missing from the day before. What will the past set aside?
