In early 1860s New York, Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon is released from prison and returns to the Five Points, seeking revenge against his father's killer, William Cutting, a powerful anti-immigrant gang leader. He knows that revenge can only be attained by infiltrating Cutting's inner circle. Vallon's journey becomes a fight for personal survival and to find a place for the Irish people.

The film begins on New Year’s Eve 2001 when Angelica attempts suicide by somewhat theatrically cutting her wrists in the bath. Over the weeks that follow we learn all about the complexities of her life and her three best friends, the quartet of the title.

Voyeur: A hotel doorman sees on his monitor everything that happens in room 107, occupied by a couple of extravagant foreigners. Both have sex with the waitress without each other's knowledge. When the truth comes to light, the couple goes into crisis, but the maid manages to restore peace. Giulia: A famous photographer shoots some beautiful models during a trip between Paris and Rome. The journey between the two cities thus also becomes an erotic journey into the body, heart, brain of the girls, all perfectly innocent and perfectly perverse... Quattro: On an "acid" night in Rome, they meet two friends in their thirties, a stripper and a Colombian trans. After a car ride, crazy drunk chemical "trips" their roads split and two couples are formed. Four parallel stories, of intersecting glances, bodies that seek each other and destinies that touch each other between dubious hotels and nightclubs.

Ernesto is doomed to loneliness since the loss of his wife. He is a writer who lives alone without any children, and is an antisocial person. However, he is as satisfied with his life. Although he has not been working for a while, a film director asks him to prepare a scenario on the life of "Teresa of Ávila". Meanwhile, a young peasant girl, Luana starts working with him as a maid. Now the time has come for an affair which he has ignored for some years.
