The film’s story revolves around Karin Stolpe’s complex relationship with her husband Sven Stolpe and her passionate love affair with Olof Lagercrantz which starts in the 1930s. It shows the impact of passion, jealousy and anger across 70 years, involving different generations.

It is Midsummer's Eve and ten people are on a deserted castle for a TV recording. The next morning the program leader is shot dead. The Swedish tabloid Kvällspressen has set their crime reporter, Annika Bengtzon, to monitor a complex murder case. The victim is a colleague and the only witness is a 15-year-old boy. Bengtzon's inquiries take an unexpected turn when the tracks lead to a 40-year-old attack on an airbase.
