Freddy Kleemann from Constance, who has moved to Berlin involuntarily, doesn't get much of the capital city feeling. While his heavily pregnant wife Juliana feels abandoned by him, his business partner Lara wants more commitment from her daycare center. Not only do the children need to accept the innovative concept with quiet rooms more readily, but the parents' tempers are also running high, much to Freddy's chagrin. His father Fritz, who suffers from dementia, worries him greatly. Freddy senses that the joint search for the right facility could be the last conscious father-and-son project. Accordingly, he wants to take his time and savor the intense moments. Freddy's mother-in-law Regina is supposed to provide relief for the Kleemanns. She likes to be there for others, but would like to be pampered again herself. Perhaps a new acquaintance would do her good? That's what her grandchildren Zoë and Niko think when they secretly register their grandma on a dating platform...

What use is a good Abitur if the climate is changing? For 17-year-old high school student Lilly, there are more important things than school. It looks correspondingly bleak with their admission to the Abitur! A policewoman from Berlin who testified against an Arab clan boss is starting a new life in Passau with her daughter under a new identity and with the support of witness protection. The policewoman, who until recently was a group leader in the Mobile Task Force (MEK), now calls herself Frederike Bader, her daughter Mia Bader. In Passau, she meets private detective Ferdinand Zankl. In a supermarket, she rescues him from a violent confrontation with a shoplifter.

Martin Behrens is a Middle East expert for the German intelligence agency BND. He obtains information leading to a U.S. drone strike on a wanted terrorist in Zahiristan. A few days later, there's a terrorist attack on a restaurant – the video claiming responsibility calls it payback for the drone strike. Freelance journalist Aurice, with whom Martin was having an affair, is among the victims – she was investigating corruption at the heart of the BND. Martin soon has to realize that in a world where big corporations profit from arms deals as well as from homeland security contracts, good and evil are sometimes hard to tell apart.
