Anita is a barmaid at the center of a community of street preachers, prostitutes, dealers and users. When a beloved friend (and young drug dealer) is caught by narcotics agents, Anita takes it upon herself to score for his struggling clients.

Successful writer/director Bernard Rougerie is at a creative dead end and decides to isolate himself from his wife in order to complete the script for his next film. Bernard moves into an apartment building whose tenants are in the midst of a revolt against their abusive landlord. Reluctant at first, he joins their cause and then becomes involved in an affair with young, unemployed resident Anne.

Servais Mont, a freelance photographer who works taking compromising photos, gets fascinated by Nadine Chevalier, a tormented low-budget movie actress married to an eccentric film photo collector.

In the year 2222, a former drug dealer is kept in a state of hibernation. Reanimated, he tells his story. Leader in the narcotics market, his situation was prosperous until, during a political change, the government legalized its use.

A woman from a bourgeois family marries a loveless man. She remembers (or dreams?) a life of adventure and smuggling, hijacking ships at night. She is kidnapped by the leader of the enemy gang, with whom she falls in love.

Benoît, a young provincial, arrives in the capital. He has left his family (mother, wife and child) in his native Charente. But for him, the difference in the standard of living is trying, and he loses his bearings among this crowd of anonymous people. A young woman, Myriam, crosses his path. But the encounter is short-lived, and Benoît returns home. A tragedy has occurred.

In Juan-les-Pins, Serge drops off a hitchhiker, Sylvie, who joins "Théo's gang", a group of students and workers, all young, all broke, improvising their vacations from day to day. Among them, Serge meets Helle, a discreet young girl with whom he quickly falls in love, but whom he can only win over once he's sorted out his many problems with the wrong people.

22 year-old- Yan is trying hard to find his way in life: a job he likes, an ideal. In Saint-Nazaire, his home town, he vegetates, just like his father, an unambitious worker. His fiancée, Juliette, has middle class values and dreams of nothing but a comfortable married life. Dissatisfied, he moves to Paris where he becomes an assembly line worker at the Billancourt Renault car factory. Sick of the working conditions he and his fellow workers have to endure there, he soon turns into a leftist activist...
