Tamon is an awkward 50-year-old rakugo comedian with no popularity, respect, or ambition. He struggles by, taking care of his father, who can no longer perform rakugo due to his steadily worsening dementia, and who does nothing but badmouths Tamon and calls him a disappointment. Kiko, a young female manzai comedian, ends up writing a skit based on one of Tamon's original stories she finds a recording of from her mother's cupboard. Kiko approaches Tamon initially for permission, then for advice. Tamon also reunites with his former girlfriend, Kiko's mother, and eventually ends up finding his passion in life and his art again.

Osamu Kogure is a young man who's out of prison and lives in poverty in an abandoned house, working odd jobs to survive. One day, his abusive prison senpai Inui arrives to boss him around. One family changes as they join a religious group. Kinoshita Haruka is forced to engage in her religious activities by her mother, Aiko, who is an avid believer and forbids her from making friends or participating in events at her school. Her father Shinji distances himself from religion and tells his daughters, Haruka and her younger sister, Inori, the importance of "believing in yourself." When Shinji suddenly falls ill, their "belief" begins to waver.

Depressed and in debt, Santoshi tells his young daughter that he is going to find an infamous serial killer and collect a reward. However, when Santoshi disappears without a trace, she starts to fear the worst and begins searching for him.
