Taxidi Tou Melitos is about the fear that most elderly people experience: approaching death. Leon (Stavros Xenides) and Zaharoula (Betty Livanou) are heading out for their annual vacation at a summer resort. Instead of their usual carefree anticipation, their mood is subdued because their daughter has just married and is off on her honeymoon. Life is lonely without her and the couple cannot avoid the realization that death is not that far away for them. Once at the resort, Leon tries to overcome this nagging fear by taking a wild plunge in the ocean, naked, as he and Zaharoula are out walking on the beach. Taken up in the spirit of the moment, she joins him among the waves. The results, however, are not what they expected.

A fairly successful insurance agent, Charles, invites a charming woman, Nana, who was the victim of one of his clients, to lunch and gives her a series of state lottery tickets that he buys during lunch.However, he gets into an argument with Nana and she returns the lottery tickets to him, while Charles gives them to his secretary and two clients. The lottery ticket wins the first prize, but how can he collect the winnings? Then the goddess Fortune appears before him in the form of a beautiful woman and complains that he kicked her. Charles's luck, however, was meeting Nana. A baby, found abandoned on his doorstep, causes the two young people to realize their love and decide to unite their lives, taking the baby's poor mother, who regrets her decision and wants her baby back, into their employ.

Thanasis Zevedaios (Thanasis Vengos) has a shop with watches and running but not enough! Time and the clocks have become obsessed after running nonstop in an effort to nourish their relatives. The 'philosopher' brother dies and leaves another four mouths under his protection. The day is divided between the shop, his sister and his niece to marry, and his beloved, who works in a supermarket, while the economic situation and their obligations do not allow them to marry.

The owner of a ship falls in love with the ship's captain, but the war will ruin their plans for marriage. The captain goes missing, and her accountant pushes her into the arms of his brother.

Towards the end of the war, Eleni meets the rebel Kostas, who is being pursued by the Germans. One night, the rebel arrives wounded at his brother Giannis' house where Eleni works. She'll take care of him, and then they'll say goodbye. When Kostas tries to meet Eleni again, he is arrested by the Germans. But he will escape execution, as the rebels will save him from death.

Philemon and Pausanias are two wretches, friends and roommates in the same chamber, which are constantly struggling to pay off their debts mainly rents, because the landlady is very grumpy. Their agarmposyni, however, does not help them to steriosoun in some work: either in a gas station or in antique or as waiters at a nightclub where she sings the amiable Michael, a poor student who lives in the same yard and is in love with Soula. But Uncle Soula, the Menios, wants to marry a rich kid, Tasos. She, however, also loves Michael manages to cajolery to obtain the consent of and become a successful singer in his side.
