In 1958, as a deadly typhoon approaches, a young boy embarks on a perilous journey to a haunted mountain pool, determined to calm a sorrowful spirit whose grief has cursed the village with devastating floods.

Tamon is an awkward 50-year-old rakugo comedian with no popularity, respect, or ambition. He struggles by, taking care of his father, who can no longer perform rakugo due to his steadily worsening dementia, and who does nothing but badmouths Tamon and calls him a disappointment. Kiko, a young female manzai comedian, ends up writing a skit based on one of Tamon's original stories she finds a recording of from her mother's cupboard. Kiko approaches Tamon initially for permission, then for advice. Tamon also reunites with his former girlfriend, Kiko's mother, and eventually ends up finding his passion in life and his art again.

Keizo Kuno, a man who once lived in the yakuza world, has abandoned his past and now lives quietly, working in a corner of Otaru. Fumika is a high school student living a peaceful life, but she suffers from memory loss. Guided by the gift she receives, Fumika travels to Otaru and finds her way to Kuno. Though surprised, Kuno can’t hide his joy. For reasons he cannot reveal, he does not tell her the truth—but Fumika is, in fact, his real daughter. Soon, the grudges Kuno carries from his past ignite violent conflicts in the underworld, drawing the two of them in. Though he cannot call himself her father, Kuno stands up to face his fate, determined to protect his daughter’s future.
