In the story of two generations searching for a fixed point in their lives, the film offers a reflection on the possibilities of escaping the reality of place, time and human responsibility. In a narrative between fiction and documentary, the past and the present are intertwined, and events both lived and written. The film takes advantage of the atmosphere of Ústí nad Labem and the unique possibilities of the Drama Studio of that time. It is linked to the theatre by the actor Jiří Schmitzer, who was a member of the ensemble for ten years, as well as the actress Jitka Prosperi and Miroslav Bambušek, who was a guest director and author there. However, the actors who also appeared on the stage of the Drama Studio were Čerčil's representative - former stage technician Zdeněk Novák, former wardrobe mistress Petra Poláková and inspector Ester Hocke.

Ten short unrelated stories that move chronologically through Slovakia's twentieth-century history as seen from the perspective of life in small towns and villages.

In Slovakia, the sixteen year-old Terezka is discharged from her school with a letter to her mother. Along her surrealistic journey to find her mother, Terezka entwines reality and fantasy and meets a man that is hired to burn clothes; a woman buried on the ground; a young bride that is marrying the forty and something year-old widow of his brother to support her family as a tradition in their village; her younger brother that is intern in a special school; a decadent TV comedian and his wife; a powerful mobster in the kitchen of a restaurant; one lover of her mother in her former address; and finally her promiscuous mother that advises her to travel through the world.

On one side stands an evil sorcerer, on the other a good Old Man. Between them, the unhappy Janek struggles for his happiness, Princess Alina for her love, and the unhappy king searches for self-respect. The miraculous stone that Janek has received from the Old Man can bring happiness, wealth, success, but only for Janek himself. With the help of the stone, he wins for himself a princess from the hands of a cruel sorcerer. Janek finally has his love, but the Wizard takes revenge and takes the land's water. The young man's happiness is too lonely, the people of the land are facing misery and suffering. What will Janek do?

In the early 20th century, in the surroundings of a luxurious boarding house and casino, the story of a mature woman and an immature young man unfolds. He is obsessed with gambling, she with the desire to save him with her love. It happened twenty years ago. The elderly noble lady recalls her experience in her youth and, with the benefit of hindsight, explains and defends it.

The tragicomedy of a man who, by inappropriately attending the wedding of his subordinate, wants to demonstrate humanistic thinking in a society that is not ripe for such ideas. However, it turns out that even for him humanism is just a declared empty concept, serving to gain popularity. His whole democratization "mission" results in a farce, for which, out of offended vanity, he takes merciless revenge on his subordinates and on the whole environment...
