Mendy Cahan

The Yung Yiddish organization is located in Tel Aviv’s Central Bus Station. This cultural venue was established by scholar and cultural activist, Mendy Cahan, with the objective of making Yiddish relevant again and preserving the culture and language left behind in Europe. The production of a musical cabaret, based upon Isaac Bashevis Singer’s Shosha, raises the complexity of Yiddish life in Israel.

Franz Murer, the Butcher of Vilnius, a former Austrian SS officer, established, organized, and ruled the Vilnius ghetto in Lithuania during the World War II. Different survivors of the Shoah testify when he is judged in 1963, hoping to do justice, but, although the evidence is overwhelming, the desire to close this obscure chapter of history seems to surpass the desire for justice.

In the horror of 1944 Auschwitz, a prisoner forced to burn the corpses of his own people finds moral survival trying to save from the flames the body of a boy he takes for his son, seeking to give him a proper jewish burial.
