Abdo leaves his village and goes to Cairo to work in the vegetable market. He meets Aziza, and marries her. Shams controls the vegetable market and monopolizes the prices. He admires Abdo and asks him to work with him. He agrees . Safiya, Shams's wife, admires Abdou, and tries to seduce him, but he repulses her. She claims that he tried to rape her, so Shams and his men take revenge and attempt to attack Aziza, but she is able to escape after a bitter struggle with the help of Abdou's friends. Then the struggle for market leadership turned between Abdo and Shams.

Kamal is the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Production Affairs and is known for his integrity. He embarrasses his children because of his lack of courtesy. After being flown to England for evaluation, it's determined that Yehia must undergo emergency surgery. Fact and fiction blend seamlessly—with healthy doses of cleverly absurdist fantasy—as the film explores the various personalities and forces that have made Yehia (and Youssef Chahine) the man he has become.

Teacher Abu Halqa succeeds in buying all the animals from the markets to become the only teacher in the slaughterhouse. Teacher Najm reluctantly agrees to make peace with Teacher Abu Halqa and also agrees to the marriage of his daughter Safaa to Abu Halqa's second son, the engineer Alaa. On the wedding night, Teacher Najm agrees with one of his men to kill Omar, Teacher Abu Halqa's first son.
