Kisetsu Fujiwara

A young Japanese woman (Yukino Kishii), who is reeling from the death of her much loved mother, decides to take a trip to Taiwanese capital Taipei to try to alleviate her loss. While there, an encounter with a young man (Jing-Hua Tseng) sees the pair strike up a tentative friendship that could help her come to terms with the death. Yukinori Makabe builds his sensitive drama around the delicate and nuanced central performances from Kishii and Tseng, elegantly weaving together the present and memory to show the lingering impact of grief on everyday life, while offering a gently hopeful sweep.

Japan, 2024. The Earth is dominated by a mysteriously giant creature (That Thing) and the group of 12 survivors has formed an uneasy community out of necessity to survive Two years later, Hirayama, the hotel owner, is found dead. 2 days until the “Last Graduation Ceremony” of high school, the building was to be demolished. Each student accepted their “farewell to youth” and moved forward with regret and hope in mind. One student visits the library to meet her secret admirer who is also her teacher, one calls her boyfriend with a strained relationship due to the distance of their colleges, one is trying to expose a secret that she hid for the last 3 years, and the last student, Manami, has to give a speech during the graduation ceremony but couldn’t overcome her pain.

One day, Tatsumi, a lonely underworld worker, comes across the murder scene of his ex-girlfriend Kyoko. Tatsumi escapes with Kyoko's younger sister, Aoi, who was with her. On the other hand, Aoi, who has lost her beloved family and vows revenge, pursues the murderer of Kyoko. Tatsumi, who is at loggerheads with the impudent Aoi, decides to accompany her on her journey for revenge, and as he cooperates with her, a certain feeling begins to develop.

Set in a barbershop in a small town by the sea, this is a story about a quiet but passionate one-hour encounter between an old owner and a young customer.
