Just like in the film, the musical's immersive story begins with a death notice that becomes the starting point for Fanny Zander's search for her roots. Together with their faithful, extravagant companion Zac, they leave the nightclub life of Berlin to make their way home to the small village of Yxared, located deep in the forests of Västgoth. Their grand entrance into the small community becomes a culture clash that stirs up emotions among the villagers but also creates new, lifelong bonds.

Peder runs into his ex-girlfriend Hanna one day. They're happily married with new partners but although many years has passed Peder and Hanna are still attracted to each other. However, they don't want to jeopardize their marriages or cheat. One day they come across an antique book about dreams. With the help of the book, they manage to enter a dream world where they can live together in a life where anything is possible, while living their normal lives during the day. But soon enough it becomes hard to separate the dream world from reality.

But the parish priest, the tax collector, and the sheriff want to spoil Christmas, so to speak, because of Fridtjof's reckless driving with snabelstoff and his frivolous dealings with the village women, and they hire a thug to take care of the matter. The women's choir is ready to take over the Christmas concert with opera diva Ragna Olm, but when things heat up in the village more than Fridtjof himself, he has to take matters into his own hands to save Christmas peace. Ytre Enebakk's great son, Fridtjof, is back in familiar style – and he has the star team of actors ever with him! The film offers humor, action, and Christmas spirit for the whole family when Fridtjof & co. sing in Christmas!
