The story of "Captain Thunder and the Holy Grail" is set during the Third Crusade in Palestine, when Captain Thunder finds in the dungeons of a fortress a dying Christian named Juan de Ribera, who entrusts him the mission to restore to Spain a cup which is the Holy Grail, stolen from an ancient order. Thunder, with his inseparable friends Crispin and Goliath, and a Viking princess named Sigfrid, will face an evil feudal lord and his black "devils", who are terrorizing the population of low Aragón.

At the end of the Spanish Civil War, the members of a group of vaudeville performers have been stripped of everything: all they have left is hunger and the instinct to survive. Day after day, agonizingly, lost and helpless between the victors and the vanquished, the musician Jorge, the ventriloquist Enrique, the couplet singer Rocío and the orphan Miguel search tirelessly for something to eat and a safe place to live.

Biography of Cardinal Tarancón, a key figure during the Transition period due to his efforts to reconcile the "two Spains." The assassination of Luis Carrero Blanco by ETA on December 20, 1973, prompted the cardinal to leave Madrid after receiving death threats. Once far from the city, Tarancón recalls what his life was like as a young priest on the run during the Civil War (1936-1939).
