Newlywed Harry Gribbon brings his wife home to meet his country family which includes their perspective choice for a daughter-in-law.

Heavyweight champion Joe Palooka (Robert Norton) and his manager/trainer Knobby Walsh (Shemp Howard), are eating a poor farmer out of house and holdings while Joe prepares for a championship bout at Madison Square Garden. The farmer sends the local sheriff to collect from Knobby.

George wants to marry Lena Schmidt but her father disapproves. Tom calls on old man Schmidt to fix things up for his friend George. He calls on the wrong Schmidt, who also has a daughter named Lena, and the two think Tom is there to ask for her hand for himself. Arrangements are made for a marriage but Tom and George think the intended bridegroom is George, as George does not know the wrong Schmidt was approached by Tom.
