Lummox is a 1930 American Pre-Code sound film directed by Herbert Brenon, released through United Artists, and based on a 1923 novel by Fannie Hurst. The story of Bertha, a young immigrant woman who cleans the homes of the rich and is largely ignored by them, except for a young poet who considers her a muse.

Russell Carrington accepts the blame for a murder charge to protect Rita, the woman he loves, from being accused of killing her husband. He escapes the police, and in a fishing village he assumes the name of Carr and is about to marry Dorothy Wheeler, the town belle, when detectives hired by Rita break up the ceremony and arrest him. Refusing to defend himself, Carrington is sentenced to life imprisonment but is released a year later as the result of the statement of "Sly Sam," a burglar who saw Rita shoot her husband. Dorothy, who has been living with a wealthy aunt in New York, is about to marry wealthy Ross Gunther, but Carrington is released and visits her home on the night of her engagement party. He thrashes a newspaper reporter who threatens to expose her affair with him, and the lovers are happily reunited.

The Brockton clan considers the mountain Little Smoky their own, but then the government comes in and declares it a forest and game preserve. This doesn't stop the family, who swears they will do what they want with the land.

Peter and Inga regularly try to convince their bachelor friend Pingel of the many sterling benefits of marriage. Until, that is, an argument about housekeeping causes a rift in the young people’s marriage and Peter dramatically leaves home – determined never to return. Soon after, Inga’s uncle from America announces his arrival, and she persuades Pingel to pretend to be Peter, whom the uncle has been looking forward to meeting. A ranch owner runs afoul of a land grabber, and both of them are in love with the same girl, the daughter of a railroad owner.

"Squint" Taylor owns a ranch and has a much older mining partner. When the partner is fatally wounded, he makes Taylor promise to take care of his daughter Marion. Taylor is more than happy to do his bidding, but Marion and her uncle are both involved with William Carrington, who is trying to cheat them out of her share of the mine.

It's the beginning of the 1800s. A feud between the people of Ödemo and Rävgården has been going on since the dawn of time and now it's worse than ever.
