Two men begin courting the girl Nadia. Being excellent storytellers, they do everything to win her over. They are completely different: one is a simple man with a criminal past, the other an intellectual who has spent time in China. The intensity of passion rises. Whom will Nadia choose? Where is truth and where is fiction? Which of them, if either, is telling the truth? What lies ahead?

Yuras, a young man who has served eight years for a minor crime, is released from prison. He finds himself in his village, already in independent Ukraine. On the radio is heard a voice of the first president, who promises Ukrainians the right to a dignified life, and young people in clubs "dance non-Moscow, independent rock 'n' roll". The young man is trying to fit into a new picture of the world, even starting a relationship with a Latvian girl. The smell of freedom and international friendship wafts through the air. Dreamy and full of hope for a new life, Yuras is returned to earth by the executive service of the police, which acts as a long-standing and well-established repressive mechanism.

A group of creative youth is trying to preserve an island of security, peace, and their own special style of life and relationships in a reserved apartment. But this freedom costs them dearly.

In this farcical dark comedy/melodrama, Lena manages to lose her place at college by virtue of throwing a minor hissy-fit when she catches her erstwhile boyfriend in bed with another girl. Instead of penalizing the boy for his behavior, Lena gets stuck with a court appearance and must pay a small fine, in addition to losing a boyfriend, her college career, and an apartment. Lena belongs to a film club which occasionally hands out awards, and the membership of it decides to send her into the Russian hinterlands to hand out an award to an obscure filmmaker. Throughout the film, Lena has been associated with a bizarre con man named Stepanych who, when his cons fall through, comes to her in the distant town she has gone to seeking her help in committing suicide.

Rookie Alexey Gavrilov ends up in a unit where hazing reigns. He resists as much as he can to the three "grandfathers" who, on the eve of demobilization, decide to recoup as much as possible on the "turtles" for past humiliations. He soon finds a like-minded person. Unable to break the will of the obstinate, the "grandfathers" carry out a vile provocation, and then Alexei decides to take a desperate step.

Five veterans of the Afghan war, recently demobilized, head to Siberia to earn money for a monument to their fallen comrade. But for them, the war is far from over...

A young artist, a graduate student Yuri Dyachenko leaves the Institute of Arts, defending his right to freedom of creativity. Yuri manages to arrange his first solo exhibition. However, his paintings turn out to be incomprehensible to a wide audience. This becomes one of the reasons for the spiritual crisis of the painter. The hero's relationship with the outside world is difficult...
