Tamara becomes a victim of circumstances. Her lover left her. She nearly lost her best friend. Even in her own apartment Tamara does not feel safe - there she finds the corpse of a neighbor. In a panic, the heroine goes to the country, but there she becomes a prisoner of the bandits.

In the fall of 1938, the NKVD arrested Sergei Korolyov. Under torture, the investigators are trying to extract from him a confession of anti-Soviet activities, each time citing incriminating facts from the biography of the young scientist. The protagonist of the play is Vasily Vasilyevich Telkin, a surgeon in the clinical department of plastic and cosmetic surgery, who is preparing to celebrate his 60th birthday. However, an anonymous letter was sent from a higher authority to the institute, making absurd accusations against Telkin. Despite Vasily Vasilyevich being highly respected by everyone, his colleagues took this "signal" too seriously and, in doing so, caused an undeserved insult to their friend.

The action takes place during the Great Patriotic War. In the last year of the war, Andrei returns to his native village. But he does not return as a hero, but as a deserter, who, after being wounded, failed to make it back to his military unit from the hospital. Only one person knows that Andrei has returned – his wife, Nastya, the only one to whom Andrei can entrust his life. Nastya is forced to hide her husband even from their relatives, only occasionally visiting him in his hiding place. Andrei is now a perpetual fugitive, doomed to loneliness.
